Types of blinds and shutters we fit in Bristol

Europa Blinds supplies and fits plantation shutters and made to measure roller, Roman, Venetian, vertical, Velux, cellular, pleated, Perfect Fit, Durashade, and Mirage blinds. Every product is measured and fitted by our own team, across Bristol and the South West.

Plantation shutters are the most permanent and arguably the most satisfying window treatment you can invest in. Once they’re fitted, they become part of the room – and they last decades, not years. Our range is available in premium sustainably sourced hardwood for living rooms, bedrooms, and hallways, and in a 100% waterproof ABS polymer for kitchens, bathrooms, and wet rooms where timber would eventually swell or warp.

With 117 painted and stained finish options across full-height, café-style, and tier-on-tier configurations, and individual louvre widths to choose from, these aren’t standard shutters. They’re designed around your window, your room, and your preference for light and privacy. Every set comes with a 5-year manufacturer warranty. They also reduce heat loss through your windows by at least 25%, which makes a measurable difference in Bristol’s older, draughtier housing stock.

Made to measure window treatments for every room

Not all windows are straightforward. Bristol has some of the most characterful – and most challenging – housing stock in the country: deep Victorian bays, tall Georgian sashes, compact Edwardian casements, and modern new-build tilt-and-turns that need a completely different approach. Off-the-shelf blinds rarely fit any of them well.

Everything we supply at Europa Blinds is made to measure. That means every dimension is taken in person at your property by our own team, every product is manufactured to those exact figures, and every installation is handled by the same people who measured up. Whether you’re after shutters in a period terrace in Redland, Velux blinds in a loft conversion in Horfield, or Durashade verticals for a rental property in the city centre, the process is the same: precise, personal, and guaranteed to fit.

The outcomes our Bristol customers typically come to us for are warmth, privacy, and a home that looks the way it should. Most of our products address all three. Many of them also integrate with smart home systems, support your energy efficiency goals, or offer motorised operation if you’d rather not think about it at all. Here’s the full picture.

Interior blinds

Our blind range covers every practical scenario across a Bristol home or business. Each product is available in a wide range of fabrics, finishes, and control options, all made to your exact window dimensions.

The roller blind is the workhorse of the range – clean-lined, compact, and genuinely versatile. We supply them in heavy blackout fabrics for bedrooms and shift-worker households, light-filtering sheers that soften glare without cutting out daylight, thermal-backed textiles that reflect solar heat in south-facing rooms, and moisture-resistant PVC for kitchens and bathrooms.

For something a little more considered, our Eclipse Senses slow-rise system replaces the standard spring mechanism with a decelerated, guided rise housed in a fully coordinated top cassette. It’s a small detail that makes a noticeable difference to how a room feels. Motorisation is available across the roller range and integrates with most smart home platforms.

If you want both privacy and soft diffused light in the same blind, ask us about Mirage day and night roller blinds – dual-layer fabrics that let you dial between the two without changing anything else in the room.

Roman blinds bring a warmth and softness to a room that no other window treatment quite matches. The structured horizontal folds of a well-made Roman create a sense of considered detail – they work particularly well in the high-ceilinged reception rooms and bedrooms of Bristol’s Victorian and Georgian properties, where a sleek roller would look underdressed and heavy curtains would be too much.

Face fabrics range from heavyweight linens and woven cottons through to silks and delicate florals – whatever suits the room. The choice of lining matters just as much: a standard cotton lining gives a clean finish; a thermal fleece lining adds meaningful insulation; a blackout lining turns a bedroom Roman into a proper sleep environment. Child-safe breakaway mechanisms are fitted as standard across the range.

Venetian blinds give you more precise control over light than almost any other product. Tilting the slats lets you direct daylight exactly where you want it – bounced off the ceiling for soft ambient light, angled down to reduce screen glare, or closed completely for full privacy. That flexibility is hard to replicate with fabric blinds.

We offer aluminium Venetians for kitchens, offices, and modern spaces where a crisp, industrial finish works; real wood Venetians for living rooms and bedrooms where you want warmth and grain; and faux wood (PVC) Venetians for bathrooms and humid spaces where real timber would eventually bow. Each is available in a wide range of finishes and slat widths, made to the millimetre for your window.

Vertical blinds are the most practical answer for wide expanses of glass – patio doors, bi-fold doors, large conservatory windows, and commercial office glazing where standard blinds simply can’t span the width. The fabric louvres rotate to track the sun or draw completely to the side for unobstructed access.

We manufacture our vertical blinds in-house at the Gloucester Road workshop, which means faster turnaround, tighter quality control, and the ability to fabricate curved tracks for complex multi-angled bay windows – something most suppliers can’t do. Fabric options run from practical neutrals and blackout materials to more decorative weaves. Control is via wand, chain with safety tensioner, or motorised track.

Specialist and technical blinds

Some windows need a purpose-built approach. These four product categories each address a specific architectural challenge – and each is a case where a standard blind either won’t fit, won’t function, or won’t perform well enough.

Standard blinds can’t be fitted to sloped roof windows – gravity defeats them. Velux blinds are engineered specifically for pitched skylights, using tensioned side channels that hold the fabric flat against the glass regardless of the angle. We supply the correct blind for your exact window using the alphanumeric code on the data plate inside the sash – no measuring tape required, no guesswork, no risk of ordering the wrong size.

Blackout options are the standard recommendation for loft bedrooms – summer mornings at this latitude are bright early, and a roof window without a proper blackout blind makes that problem significantly worse. Thermal fabrics are the choice for skylights over kitchen islands or living spaces where solar heat gain is the issue.

Cellular (honeycomb) blinds are the most thermally efficient blind available. Their honeycomb cross-section traps a layer of still air between the fabric and the glass, acting as an insulating buffer that reduces heat loss in winter and prevents solar overheating in summer. For conservatories – which tend to be either too cold or too hot depending on the season – they’re the single most effective product we supply.

Perfect Fit blinds clip directly into the beading of uPVC window frames using a patented bracket system – no drilling, no screws, no damage to the frame. They sit within the frame rather than in front of it, which means doors and tilt-and-turn windows open and close without the blind swinging or catching. They’re the right answer for conservatories, French doors, rental properties where drilling isn’t permitted, and any uPVC window where a standard blind would look clunky or get in the way.

Available in pleated, cellular, Venetian, and roller styles. The fit is always clean, always neat, and always exactly right for the frame – because it’s made specifically for it.

Durashade rigid PVC vertical blinds are a commercial-grade product, and they look and behave like one. The 89mm louvres are solid PVC rather than fabric – they don’t sag, don’t fade, and clean with a damp cloth in seconds. Inherently flame retardant to BS5867 and anti-microbial without any additional treatment, they’re the specification choice for landlords, HMOs, offices, clinics, and schools where compliance, durability, and hygiene matter. Chain-free wand control is standard.

Mirage day and night roller blinds take a completely different approach: two layers of alternating sheer and opaque fabric bands that move relative to each other to give you any point on the spectrum between full transparency and complete privacy – without changing the blind or adjusting anything manually. In an open-plan living room or a bedroom where the light changes through the day, the control you get is genuinely useful, not just a feature on a spec sheet.
