Europa Blinds makes vertical blinds in its own Gloucester Road workshop and fits them across Bristol: fabric louvres for wide windows and patio doors, and Durashade rigid PVC for offices, clinics, and rental properties.
Made to measure vertical blinds
Some windows are simply too wide for any other blind type to handle elegantly. Patio doors, bi-fold door systems, full-width conservatory glazing, and commercial office windows that span an entire wall – these are the environments where vertical blinds do something no other product can do as well: cover a large opening completely, give you precise control over light and privacy across the whole span, and stack neatly to one side when the full opening needs to be clear.
Vertical blinds work by suspending fabric or rigid louvres from a top track. The louvres rotate 180 degrees to track the angle of the sun or close completely for privacy, and draw to either side – or split to the centre – to open the window or door. The design is inherently practical: the vertical orientation means dust settles on the louvres less readily than on horizontal slats, and a single damaged louvre can be replaced individually without changing the whole blind.
We manufacture our vertical blinds in-house at the Gloucester Road workshop. That means faster lead times than products that go out to third-party manufacturers, tighter quality control over every track and louvre, and the ability to produce curved tracks for Bristol’s complex multi-angled bay windows – something most suppliers can’t offer. Every installation is measured on-site and fitted by our own team.
For residential installations, fabric louvres are the standard choice. We supply headrail systems from Eclipse (the Vitesse slimline system) and Louvolite (the Wand Control Vogue), both of which offer a cleaner, more considered look than the heavyweight commercial tracks you might associate with 1980s office buildings.
The louvre fabric range covers the full spectrum of practical and decorative needs. Plain neutrals in linen and cotton weaves work well in living spaces where the blind needs to sit quietly in the room. Blackout-coated fabrics are available for bedrooms and nurseries where a vertical blind is the preferred choice for a wide window. Screen fabrics with an open weave reduce glare and solar heat gain while preserving the view – a good choice for south or west-facing rooms in Bristol’s newer properties with generous glazing.
Fabrics are weighted at the hem and linked at the base to maintain uniform vertical tension and prevent the louvres from twisting or separating unevenly in a draught. This is a mechanical detail that matters more in practice than it might sound – a vertical blind where the louvres spin independently in the breeze from an open door is considerably more frustrating to live with than one where the weights keep them aligned.
Residential installations most commonly use a wand control system – a simple, chain-free rod that rotates the louvres and draws them to one side. This eliminates dangling cords entirely, which is both safer for households with young children and pets, and visually cleaner. For patio and bi-fold door situations where you want to operate the blind without reaching across the opening, a corded draw system with a safety tensioner gives comfortable reach from the side of the door frame.
Motorised track systems are available for large or awkward installations – particularly useful in conservatories where the blind spans a wide wall, or in rooms where the track is above comfortable reach. Motorised verticals integrate with most smart home platforms and can be set to open and close automatically on a schedule or in response to a sun sensor.
One of the capabilities that sets our in-house manufacturing apart is the ability to produce custom curved tracks. Bristol’s Victorian and Edwardian bay windows have multi-angled frames that standard straight tracks can’t follow – attempting to fit a standard vertical track in a deep bay leaves the louvres hanging at the wrong angle relative to the glass, with gaps at the corners. A curved track, bent to the exact profile of the bay, hangs the louvres correctly across every panel and gives a much cleaner result. We assess bay windows for curved track suitability during the home visit.
Durashade replaces the fabric louvre with a solid 89mm rigid PVC panel. It doesn’t sag, doesn’t fade, and wipes clean in seconds – and it meets fire safety standards that fabric can’t match without added treatment.
This is the blind landlords ask for, and equally the specification for any facilities manager, school business manager, or clinic administrator who has replaced the same fabric verticals twice in three years and is tired of it.
BS5867 fire compliance is built into the louvre itself, not sprayed on afterwards, so it can’t wash or wear off. For HMO licensing and regulated environments, that’s the difference between compliant and liable.
Solid 89mm rigid PVC louvres, anti-microbial as standard, chain-free wand control, wipe-clean in place, individually replaceable, motorisation available.
The short answer: fabric verticals for homes and light commercial spaces; Durashade for environments where durability, hygiene, and compliance are non-negotiable.
Soft, fabric texture – wide range of colours and weaves
Clean, painted PVC – professional and clinical
Good for domestic use; fabric will eventually fade and wear
Exceptional – will outlast fabric verticals in most environments
Wipe with damp cloth; some fabrics machine washable
Wipe clean in seconds – no removal required
Standard fabric – BS5867 available with treatment
Inherently flame retardant to BS5867 – no treatment needed
Fabric absorbs airborne particles over time
Anti-microbial PVC – clinical and food-safe environments
Wand control eliminates chains for residential use
Chain-free wand as standard across all installations
Homes, light commercial offices, conservatories
HMOs, schools, clinics, offices, rental properties
Fabric verticals with wand control or motorised track. Draw to the hinge side so the full door opening is clear when needed.
Fabric verticals for a lighter, domestic feel; motorisation worthwhile for wide spans. For the roof panels, see our cellular and pleated blinds.
Curved track fabric verticals made in-house to follow the exact bay profile.
Durashade rigid PVC – durable, low-maintenance, and fire-compliant without additional treatment.
Durashade for large window spans; fabric verticals on Louvolite Wand Control for smaller offices and meeting rooms.
Durashade only – anti-microbial, inherently flame retardant, and wipe-clean in a single product.
The process is straightforward and entirely managed by our own team.

Yes – this is one of the most common residential applications for vertical blinds. The louvres draw to one or both sides of the track, leaving the full door opening clear when the doors are open. For bi-fold doors in particular, vertical blinds fitted inside the structural opening (rather than in front of the door frame) are the cleanest solution, as they don’t interfere with the door mechanism. We assess the best mounting approach for each configuration during the home visit.
Fabric verticals use textile louvres – soft, available in a wide range of colours and weaves, and appropriate for homes and light commercial spaces. Durashade verticals use solid 89mm rigid PVC louvres that are inherently flame retardant to BS5867, anti-microbial, chain-free, and wipe-clean in seconds. Fabric blinds look warmer and more domestic; Durashade looks more clinical and is specified for environments where durability, hygiene, and fire compliance matter more than softness. The two are different products for different environments – not different quality levels of the same product.
Wand-controlled vertical blinds are among the safest blind types for households with young children. The wand eliminates hanging cords and chains entirely – there’s nothing to pull or wrap. For households that prefer a corded draw system, we fit safety tensioners that keep the cord taut against the wall rather than hanging loose. All blinds we supply meet current UK child safety legislation as standard, and we’ll always recommend the safest control option for your situation during the home visit.
Yes, in most cases. If the headrail and track mechanism are in good working order, individual louvres or a full set of replacement louvres can be fitted to the existing hardware. This is exactly the kind of update our Blind Makeover service covers. It’s a cost-effective way to refresh the look of a room – or to replace a few damaged louvres – without the expense of a complete new installation. Get in touch and we’ll assess whether your existing track is suitable.
For fabric louvres, regular vacuuming with a soft brush attachment prevents dust from becoming ingrained. Individual louvres can be unclipped from the track and wiped with a damp cloth and mild detergent for deeper cleaning. Some fabrics are machine washable – we’ll confirm this for the specific fabric at point of supply. For Durashade rigid PVC louvres, simply wipe with a damp cloth and mild detergent – in place, without removal. There’s no need to take them down or soak them.
Yes. Commercial vertical blind installations – including Durashade specifications for clinics, schools, and offices – are a regular part of what we do. We carry out a free site survey for commercial enquiries, assess window dimensions and compliance requirements, and supply a fixed-price quotation. Installation is by our own fitting team, and we can work around operating hours to minimise disruption. Get in touch directly to discuss your requirements.
Yes. We make curved tracks in-house, bent to the exact profile of the bay, so the louvres hang correctly across every panel without gaps at the corners. A standard straight track can’t follow a multi-angled Victorian or Edwardian bay. We check each bay for a curved track at the free home visit.
Usually two to three weeks from order confirmation. We make our vertical blinds in-house at our Gloucester Road workshop, which keeps lead times shorter than products that go out to third-party manufacturers.
Bay windows need a curved track, and we make ours in house. The home visit is where we work out exactly what yours needs.
